My name is Dylan, and I am a millennial who has successfully avoided the often-cited trend of being financial irresponsible that is prevalent in my generation. I call the great state of Texas home, and have a beautiful wife and daughter that motivate me every day. I have been fortunate enough to find financial success, but only after a lot of trial and error and learning from my mistakes.
After several years of conversing with friends, family members, and colleagues, I decided to try my hand at articulating the valuable financial lessons that have worked for me. One of my greatest passions is sharing the financial knowledge and experience that I have gained through education and experience. I believe that empowering others to better themselves is one of the greatest acts of goodwill we are able to give, and hopefully the topics discussed here will do just that.
Growing up in a small, rural town in Texas, I was a late arrival to the wide-world of money and finance. Financial responsibility was rarely a topic of conversation, and I would later realize that this was driven by a widespread, systematic lack of understanding. It was my curiosity, along with the awesome feeling of having a little extra money in my pocket that began my never-ending journey towards financial fitness.
My interest in the inner-workings of the monetary world grew exponentially as I got older, which led me through a degree in Finance, several brokerage licenses and certifications, and ultimately an MBA (Hook ‘Em Horns!). Over the past 10+ years my career has advanced through Corporate Finance in multiple industries, with online brokerage proving the most beneficial for my own personal knowledge. An intimate understanding of finance in a multi-billion dollar corporate setting has helped me to appreciate the art of being financially savvy, and the immense benefit it can provide us as individuals.
When not working, I spend my time enjoying my friends and family, traveling, playing golf, watching sports, and searching for the next exciting restaurant to try. I have been blessed with a wonderful family, group of friends, and tremendous opportunities that I am thankful for every day (and try not to take for granted). I am certainly not exempt from facing the financial hurdles of day-to-day life, but have been able to build a substantial net worth by remaining disciplined and adhering to a few basic principles. My ultimate goal is not unlike many of you: gain financial freedom at an early age in order to spend my time doing the things that I love with those that I love.
I am enormously grateful for those who have passed their knowledge along to me, and I hope that this blog is an outlet for me to do the same; I hope the content here helps you move one step closer to your own financial health.
