Welcome to The Healthy Wallet. If you are a new reader, welcome! My goal is to make your experience as comfortable and as useful as I can. I find great joy in coming across practical information in a format that is easy-to-digest, and my goal is to provide that here. Whether this is your first time visiting or you’re a regular, my goal is to have you leave armed with just a bit more financial knowledge that you came with.
The mission of The Healthy Wallet is to help educate and empower you to make responsible financial decisions that will lead to a more fulfilling life.
For me, this blog represents a trip that I am taking with you, the readers. We will cover a lot of territory, stop occasionally to visit attractions in popular culture and mainstream media, but all end up at the same destination: financial fitness.
My Wallet
My story begins as a naïve, energetic, determined college graduate during one of the most significant economic recessions in history. Fortunately, I was nothing more than ignorant to what was “normal” during this period and managed to grow my career and my own financial health. I began to realize that many of my friends and classmates were not able to do the same, which slowly led me to the realization that a lack of practical, useable financial information can lead to a wide variety of downstream problems in life.
After a few years, I found myself sharing my own personal wins and losses with those close to me. I wanted everyone to achieve their own financial goals and success. It was only after convincing myself that what I had to say could help others in their own journey that I decided to take the leap and publish my thoughts and ideas on a more public venue.
Make no mistake, like anything in life that is worth having, financial fitness takes discipline and dedication. I have been successful in maximizing my income, growing my net worth, and spending responsibly while still enjoying life tremendously. Extreme frugality and pinching pennies may be a winning recipe for some, but I firmly believe that a balanced approach to personal finance is the best long-term plan.
My story is not full of revolutionary ideas or lucky-breaks, but rather a focus towards consistent, incremental improvements that compound over time. If you’d like to read more of my background and what led me to start The Healthy Wallet, please make sure and stop by the About the Author section of the blog.
My Writing
As I mentioned earlier, my goal is to provide useful information that you are able to relate to in a concise way. The posts you will find here will be from someone who understands the financial challenges you face and has your best interest at heart. The goal is not to inundate you with complicated formulas and jargon, but to sum up relatable topics and ideas in a way you may not have considered.
Many of us have encountered the fitness trainer at your local gym who is in less-than-peak physical condition themselves, but has somehow convinced gym-goers to trust them with helping achieve their own exercise and fitness goals. To avoid an embarrassing situation like that here, one of my commitments to you is to always to transparent and open with the information provided.
You’re in Good Company
If living in the information age has taught me one thing, it’s that there is someone, somewhere who has gone or is going through the same situation or difficulty as we are. Our ability to share information and media has resulted in an abundance of resources at our fingertips, which is an extremely comforting notion when we are struggling with something. To know the feeling that someone else understands our plight is an oddly satisfying sensation to experience.
No matter how bad or how great you believe yourself to be, there is undoubtedly someone who is much worse or much better. We’ve all undoubtedly had conversations regarding money that left us feeling either very accomplished or woefully underachieving. This is one of the strongest contributing factors to me creating this blog, and to have more and more people improve their financial fitness; The Healthy Wallet is a new kind of health-kick, and I know that you’ll stick with it once you see the results.
